NYARUGENGE - Kigali City Council (KCC) presented its 2008 performance contract before Prime Minister Bernard Makuza at Jali club yesterday.
The ceremony which was attended by a number of ministers and other government officials started with presentations from the three districts which make up Kigali city, namely; Gasabo, Kicukiro and Nyarugenge.
Kigali City Mayor, Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, explained that the social performance of Kigali was basically in line with the four government pillars of the Economy, Justice, Good governance, and Welfare.
Among Kigali City’s many achievements, the Mayor pointed out Kigali’s recently won UN habitat scroll of honour as an indicator which shows that Kigali city is living to its expectations.
The Prime Minister, who moderated the meeting after the presentation of the contracts, emphasised that the youth need to be protected from the genocide ideology through teaching them what would be more important to them other than being involved in acts that don’t benefit them.
According to a document seen by The New Times, the city of Kigali was able to achieve the following this year; It had constructed 15.9km of tarmac roads which cost Rwf 5.9 bn, 6km of feeder roads which cost Rwf 2 bn, 22 road side shelters, among other things.
Among the challenges faced by the city, the Mayor mentioned low worker capacity and ignorance of the city plans by some residents which makes execution of programs difficult.
Presentations of performance contracts have already been carried out in other Provinces.
