Rwanda’s Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) has joined other Government of Rwanda insitutions to ease doing business in Rwanda and attracting foreign Direct Investments. It is in line with this that WASAC has elaborated a new policy which will see new commercial and industrial premises connected with water at a waived fee.
Since May 31st 2015, WASAC removed water connection fees for new commercial and industrial buildings. The fees include administrative and caution fees as well as the cost of materials and labour.
The waiver is applied to new businesses which fulfil the following criteria:
-New commercial and industrial buildings located within 150 meters from WASAC water supply network. Commercial and industrial buildings located at a distance beyond 150 meters will pay the cost of materials and works for the additional distance.
The eligible buildings for the above waiver must fulfil the following additional criteria:
- Having 2 floors both above ground, with a total constructed area of 1,300.6 square meters. - Will have road access and be located in the peri-urban area of the economy’s largest business cities. - Will be located on a land plot of 929 square meters (10,000 square feet) that is 100% owned by the constructor/owner. - Only new construction without existing water connection within the plot .- Prove that the property is meant for business and industrial purposes.
All commercial and industrial buildings meeting the above criteria are eligible to this waiver regardless of whether or not they are located in the special economic zones.
Those whose businesses fulfil all of the above criteria are advised to visit any of the nearest WASAC branches for more information.
