The Rwandan community living in South Africa and friends, yesterday gathered in Cape Town to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The Rwandan community living in South Africa and friends, yesterday gathered in Cape Town to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The commemoration event held at the Holocaust and Genocide Centre was also attended by the Jewish Community living in Cape Town, South Africa. The High Commissioner of Rwanda to South Africa, Vincent Karega applauded the strong unity of Rwandans living in South Africa and commitment to commemorate the genocide saying it was a moral responsibility for Rwandans to reverse bad history and transform Rwanda into a proud legacy for future generations. He urged them to maintain their understanding the importance of Unity and Reconciliation and commitment to the rapid development Rwanda. South Africans and friends of Rwanda reflected on lessons learnt from the Genocide as well as progress in recent years as well as the common features between the two countries. The South African Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, recently paid tribute to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi victims at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre in Gisozi. Ramaphosa, who was in the country for the World Economic Forum, noted among other things, the strides made in Rwanda in the area of peace building and reconciliation over the past two decades.
