Rayon Sports welcome Kiyovu SC to Kigali Pele Stadium in week 15 of the Primus National League on Tuesday, December 12.
This is going to be the 16th meeting between the two teams since 2016 with Rayon having the upper hand with seven wins, three draws and five defeats.
Kiyovu, now sixth on the league table with 20 points after 14 games, have been patchy this season while Rayon have been in fine form before falling to a 2-1 loss to AS Kigali on December 9. They now sit third with 26 points.
Form does not count in local derbies and Rayon themselves can attest to it after surprise loss at the hands of the ‘Citizens’ who were deep in the relegation zone.
It is going to be an intriguing game with much at stake. During the 2022/23 season, Rayon failed to beat Kiyovu both home and away in the league as the Green Baggies picked four points out of six. The Blues will be hoping to write a new script as they face another litmus test.
In terms of player quality, Kiyovu will rely on Burundian striker Richard Kilongozi who has scored in each of his last three games for the club while skipper Olivier Niyonzima will be looking to show what his former side has been missing from him since he left the club IN 2019.
Rayon will also count on Joackiam Ojera and the evergreen Heritier Luvumbu who has been arguably the best midfielder in the Primus National League so far this season. If both players have a good day, expect the Blues to flourish.
