The Amavubi Stars’ team is set to regroup  early November ahead of the senior Cecafa Challenge Cup championship due to be held in Arusha, Tanzania, football Association has confirmed.

The team’s manager, Jean Pierre Bazigangago told Times Sport yesterday that the national team is set  to start preparing for the regional tournament in November.

"The football federation has decided that non-residential training for the national team should beginduring the first weekend of the month of November and this is basically for local based players,” Bazigangago said, adding that the federation is set to name local coaches who will manage the senior team.

Bazigangago further added that they will undergo two weeks of non residential training before starting intensified residential training in the next fortnight.

"This will ensure that a strong team is in place. We want to bring the trophy home this time,” Bazingango said.

Bazingango added that players will start reporting to their respective clubs on October 15 to start training ahead of the national team call.

Rwanda finished third in last year’s edition which was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia after losing to winner Zambia in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, the same squad is expected to take part in the inaugural Africa Nations Championships introduced by Africa’s soccer governing body CAF.

The event will draw only home based players and Rwanda has been grouped alongside East African countries namely, Uganda, Sudan, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Zanzibar.

The qualifiers are set to start next year and will run alongside the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
