The National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) has organised a three-day workshop on monitoring and reporting on human rights. The workshop brings together local and international NGOs that work in the area of human rights.

According to Nkusi Kabare , the workshop is aimed at enlightening people on their rights and how to fight for them, also to make a follow up on human rights violations.

"The major discussion of the workshop will be based on the principle basis on monitoring and reporting on violation of human rights,” Nkusi explained.

"By this workshop, we are trying to reach out to the people out there so that they know their rights and they are not violated,” he added.

December 10th 2008, is going to be the 60th anniversary in honour of the United Nations General Assembly’s proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

Kabare, explained that they are preparing for the day by figuring out best methods and strategies of fighting human rights violators and to see that the rate of human rights violations are minimal.

When asked what they are expecting out of the workshop, James Mugarura, one of the participants disclosed that they are planning to reach those who don’t know about their rights.

"We think in the next two days we will have acquired a lot of ideas on how to overcome the problem of human rights violations,”  He said.
