MEMBERS OF the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) youth league have been urged to be a catalyst for the country’s national development and contribute towards social economic development.

The call was made on Saturday by the RPF Secretary General, Francois Ngarambe, while opening a three day workshop of RPF youth representatives in Muhanga District, Southern province.

Over 150 youth from district, provincial and national levels are attending the training.

Ngarambe said that the country was liberated by the youth during the liberation struggle that ended the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The struggle for the current generation and the next to come, he said, was to ensure that the country develops more than it achieved in the past 22 years.

"We need to change our mindset to achieve a lot, you have to look forward, though we have achieved a lot, there is a long way to go and your role is underestimated,” he told the gathering.

"Each generation has its own responsibility, your brothers had the responsibility to liberate the country and strive for the Rwandan identity, yours and the one to come is to fight poverty and sustain what was achieved,” he added. 

The RPF Secretary also urged them to use technology to deal with world challenging issues and resist colonial mindsets which tend to minimise what Rwandans have achieved.

 "That can’t be done through words, you need to work hard, know well you are Rwandans and what it means, make better choices and resist what is against our better will, you are like precious gold but if we don’t shape you and give you the vision you won’t achieve much,” Ngarambe said

He noted that the responsibility of RPF youth league representative committees is to ensure that Rwandan youth are supported to achieve development by creating  jobs in cooperatives other than working individually. 

"Never be satisfied by little achievement, work hard to achieve a lot, jobs are there but you need to create them, help the youth to work hard in various entrepreneurial  disciplines such as making bricks, create big   businesses other than doing little things,” he told the participants.

"The training is an opportunity for us to gain additional skills to what we already know, we need to understand more leadership and how RPF youth members can follow the path of our brothers, understand RPF’s way of leadership, its principles and ideology so as to help the youth we represent towards the development path,” said Jean-Claude Barimuyabo, the league’s chair on the national level.
