The national League table leaders and defending champions APR FC beat SC Kiyovu (2-0) to go five points clear at the top of the table, at Kigali Regional Stadium, yesterday.

APR lead the table standings with 58 points, five points ahead of their rivals Rayon Sports, but Rayon Sports have six games left while the former have five.

Jean Claude Iranzi and Janvier ‘Jijia’ Benedata netted the goals for Nizar Khanfir’s team. Iranzi’s goal came in the 34th minute after a wonderful pass from youngster Fiston Nkezingabo while Janvier ‘Jijia’ Benedata netted a good pass from Iranzi in the 75th minute.

However, Yves Rwasamanzi’s side could have ended the first half in the lead, but Andre Lomami and Abdul Karim Gashugi wasted good scoring chances.

In the second half, central defender Aman Uwiringiyimana saved the ‘Green Baggies’ from conceding after goalie Jean Paul Mutabazi was beaten by Fiston Nkezingabo.

Meanwhile, away in Nyamagabe, Mukura beat Amagaju at home 2-1, thanks to Christophe Ndayishimiye and Hussein Mugabo Cyiza who netted for Godfroid Okoko’s side, while Adophe Hakundukize scored the consolation goal for Abdu ‘Becken’ Bizimana’s team. In the second half, Mukura’s midfielder Ally Niyonzima was given a red card after a nasty foul against Amagaju player Joachim Alanga Yenga. Mukura remain in the third place with 50 points while Amagaju are in tenth position with 28 points.

Elsewhere, Rwamagana beat AS Muhanga 1-0, thanks to the lone goal from Janvier Nyabyenda. Espoir played goalless against Police while the game between Musanze and Etincelles was postponed following the death of Musanze assistant coach Jean Paul Kalisa on Tuesday. Also, lack of an ambulance at Umuganda stadium saw the game between Marines and AS Kigali postponed.
