Rwanda football fraternity is mourning the sudden death of Coach Jean Paul Kalisa, also known as ‘Mourinho’, a key football figure who has been the assistant coach at Musanze FC. He died this morning after several days struggling with kidney problems.
Rwanda football fraternity is mourning the sudden death of Coach Jean Paul Kalisa, also known as‘Mourinho’, a key football figure who has been the assistant coach at Musanze FC.
He died this morning after several days struggling with kidney problems.
Kalisa is known for nurturing young talents under Esperance Football Academy in Musanze district.
Players like Patrick Sibomana, Bernabe Mubumbyi, Djamar Mwiseneza and left back Eric Rutanga all from APR FC were coached by the fallen coach.
Police captain, Fabrice ‘Ndikukazi’ Twagizimana and his colleague, striker Danny Usengimana also played under Kalisa.
Besides the academy, he has also coached several football clubs including; AS Muhanga, Union FC (currently known as Gasabo FC) in the second division and he also helped promote Gicumbi FC to topflight football during the 2012/2013 season.
He was assistant coach for Police FC, Amagaju FC, and Rayon Sport before joining Musanze FC where he has been an assistant coach to Ugandan tactician George Semwogerere.
He’s survived by a wife and daughter. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
