Rayon Sports thrashed Bugesera FC 4-0 at Kigali Regional Stadium to keep pressure on defending champions and table leaders, APR.
Malian import, Ismailia Diarra scored a hat trick to go top of the scorers chart with13 goals. He netted the opening goal in the ninth minute off a wonderful pass from Burundian import Pierrot Kwizera who netted the second goal in the 33rd minute after going past three defenders to beat goalie Gerard Bikorimana.
A minute later, Diarra netted the third goal before completing his hat trick in the 72nd minute, thanks to a cross from Savio Dominique Nshuti. Bugesera FC skipper David Nzabanita was red carded after two bookings.
After 23 games, Nizar Kanfir’s APR is leading the table with 52nd points one ahead of Djuma Irambona Masudi’s Rayon Sports, who have one game in hand against Etincelles. Since Masudi took over in March from Belgian Ivan Jacky Minnaert, he has not lost any game.
Rayon Sports are looking for the 8th title and the first since 2013 which they won under Frenchman Didier Gomes da Rosa while APR are looking for a record-extending 16th title since 1995.
Elsewhere at Kicukiro Stadium, Police FC beat AS Muhanga 2-0 to stay in sixth place, thanks to the brace from Dany Usengimana in the fourth and 56th minute to put his tally at 11 goals.
Etincelles jumped to 13th position with 21 points after beating Espoir 1-0, thanks to Salite Gentil Kambale’s lone goal. In Nyamagabe, Amagaju drew 1-all against AS Kigali, Fabien Nsengiyumva scored for the host before Justin Mico equalized for the visitors.
Mukura beat SC Kiyovu 1-0 at Mumena Stadium, thanks to Ibrahim Nshimiyimana’s lone goal, to go in third position with 44 points.
On Tuesday, APR FC kept their title pursuit alive after edging Gicumbi FC 3-0 at Kigali Regional Stadium. Issa Bigirimana, Herve Rugwiro and Jean Claude Iranzi netted for APR FC.
Gicumbi FC dropped to 8th position with 30 points to tie with Sunrise FC, which also lost to Rwamagana City FC 0-1, but have a superior goal difference over Gicumbi FC.
Rwamagana City secured a slim 1-0 win against Sunrise FC to leapfrog AS Muhanga into 15th position with 14 points while Sunrise FC is 7th with 30 points.
Marines FC held home side Musanze FC to a 1-all draw at Nyakinama grounds. Marines FC sit in 11th position with 35 points, two points ahead of Musanze in 12th spot.
