Rwanda international cricketer, Eric Dusingizimana today (Wednesday) at 8:00am started on his attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest time spent batting in the net.
The national cricket team captain is expected to bat for 51 hours nonstop at Amahoro Indoor Stadium, Remera, starting today, May 11th to may 13th, meaning he will bat for two days and 3 hours nonstop. Bowlers include local cricketers, investors from UK, Rwanda and participants of the ongoing World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa.
The current Guinness Worlds Records for longest batting cricket net holder is an Indian, Virag Male, who batted for 50 hours, and Dusingizimana will attempt to break it.
Speaking to the Times Sports before he entered into the competitions, the 29-year old Right Guards cricket club player said he is confident that he will make it and finish all the hours without resting apart from the five minutes given after an hour for refreshment
"We need to build the future of cricket in Rwanda, set up good cricket facilities as well as help improve the sport's image on the international stage. I will not give up till the last ball," Dusingizimana said.
Dusingizimana is one of the most experienced cricketers in Rwanda who started playing cricket in 2006 with Right Guards; he later went on to play for Young Tigers, Impala Titans and Dugout CC until 2014 when he rejoined the Right Guards.
He has been a key member of the national team since 2008 and helped the national team win the ICC division 3 tournaments in Accra, Ghana in 2011.
On the local scene, he has won various tournaments, including the 50-Overs Premier League in 2006 with Right Guards. He also scooped the player of the Tournament award in 2010 while playing for Impala Titans after helping them to the title as well as TwentyT20 in the same year.
