Millicom, a leading telecommunications company with over 60 million customers in fourteen countries across Latin America and Africa, has appointed Philip Amoateng, as General Manager of its operations in Rwanda. The firm operates locally as Tigo Rwanda.
Millicom, a leading telecommunications company with over 60 million customers in fourteen countries across Latin America and Africa, has appointed Philip Amoateng, as General Manager of its operations in Rwanda. The firm operates locally as Tigo Rwanda.
Amoateng, 40, who was most recently Tigo Ghana’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) replaces Tongai Maramba. Amoateng was also Tigo Rwanda’s CFO for four years.
Commenting on his appointment, Amoateng, said, "Rwanda is a very familiar territory for me and I am excited to be taking up this next challenge in my career and coming back to Rwanda with my family in order to take up this post. Our company will continue to innovate and to champion the right of all Rwandan people to be connected to the internet.”
Born in Ghana, Amoateng is one of Tigo’s longest serving employees, holding senior financial and operational roles across Millicom for more than 14 years.

Amoateng will take up his new post on June 1.
Millicom provides mobile, mobile financial, cable and satellite services to over 60 million customers in fourteen countries, primarily under the Tigo brand. Tigo has been operating in Africa since 1993, and in Rwanda since 2009. It serves over 26 million customers in Africa.
