Huye-based IPRC-South will take on neighbours UR-Huye on Sunday in a tricky national basketball league encounter as they close in on a first league title.

The rivalry between the two Huye-based sides started last year when IPRC-South joined the national league.

Should Charles Mushumba’s UR-Huye win the game, it will be their first victory against IPRC-South in the league—head-to-head, with the later having won all the three previous meetings.

League title hopefuls IPRC-South can’t afford losing the game, because, besides seeking to keep a perfect record against their neighbours, a win will edge them closer to the league title, but only if they defeat their closest challengers Patriots on May 14.

"We can’t afford to lose the game on Sunday; it is a must-win for us. Our games with them (UR-Huye) have always been very tight, and I don’t expect anything different on Sunday, but we need to win and edge closer to achieving our dream,” IPRC-South trainer Dider Bineza told Sunday Sport.

Elsewhere, struggling Rusizi host United Generation Basketball (UGB) today morning, looking for a third win of the season. 

Meanwhile, on Friday, holders Espoir beat U18 Boys Team 57-45, while IPRC- Kigali defeated APR 72-59. 

Espoir, Patriots and IPRC-Kigali top the table with 32 points each but Henry Mwinuke’s Patriots have played one game less. IPRC-South are in fourth with 29 points and two games in hand.
