Former Amavubi striker Labama Bogota is confident that his side AS Muhanga will avoid relegation from the topflight league despite being stuck in the relegation contest since start of the season.

The veteran forward has scored twice in five games for his new club, which moved from bottom spot in the league table for the first time this season, on Tuesday, following a 3-1 win over Etincelles.

It was only their third victory of the season. They now have 14 points, three clear of bottom side Rwamagana City FC, who lost to fellow newcomers Bugesera FC. AS Muhanga’s win reduced the gap on 14th placed Etincelles to two points, although the latter have a game in hand – against Rayon Sports.

Bokoto, who signed a short-term contract just before the start of the league’s second round, believes his side will avoid relegation at the first time of asking.

"I believe, after today’s win, we can put together a run of wins, probably until the end of the season, and that would put us in a situation where we would avoid relegation,” Bogota said after Tuesday’s important win at Muhanga Regional Stadium.

"This is because of the way we are playing, and with the changes that were introduced in the club by the administration, everything is fine. All we need is to go out there and perform harder, we need to make our fans happy,” added the former Rayon Sports, APR and SC Kiyovu striker.

The DR Congo-born , who was a sensation during his spells at Rayon Sports, APR and the national team, explained: "We must make sure we kick on, try and win games. I think we just need to continue doing what we're doing. And it's important we stay confident.”

The Southern Province-based outfit ended the first round of the season without a win out of 15 games, managing just five draws and a whopping 11 defeats. However, since the start of the second round, AS Muhanga have registered three wins, one draw and one loss.
