The Rwanda Cycling Cup competition will kick off on Saturday, according to the Rwanda Cycling Federation Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Murenzi.

The race will run from Kigali-Nyagatare (148,5km).

The junior category race will cover 101km, from Rwamagana- Nyagatare, while the women category will start from Kiramuruzi to Nyagatare (68km).

"We believe that we will have a successful event. We want to use the race to see if we will detect more young talent to compete at the international level. The aim is to make riders competitive,” Murenzi said.

The race will attract riders from different cycling clubs under the Federation of Cycling in Rwanda. The clubs include Benediction Club, Les Amis Sportifs, Cine Elmay, Fly Cycling Club, Huye Cycling Club for All and Kiramuruzi Cycling Club.

Race will see riders compete in four categories, namely Elite men, Men U 23, Under 18 (Juniors Men) and (Women).

Rwanda Cycling Cup is made of 9 races which were organized by FERWACY in collaboration with Skol and Cogebanque in a bid to promote cycling talent among talented Rwandans.

The riders will earn points from each race and after all races there will be an overall national champion.

Jean Bosco Nsengimana, who is riding for Germany-based Bike Aid, is the 2015 Tour du Rwanda and Rwanda Cycling Cup defending champion.
