Police has hailed commercial motorcyclists operating in Burera District for supporting community policing efforts.

While speaking to the motorcyclists during a meeting on Monday, Chief Inspector of Police Patrick Gasaraba thanked them for timely information sharing on suspected wrongdoers.

The meeting, held at Gahunga Police Station, drew commercial motorcyclists operating under a cooperative known as COTAMORWA.

Gasaraba urged them to maintain the community policing spirit.

"The cooperation between Police and the public has continued to register significant achievements as far as peace and security are concerned, I urge you to always partner with security organs through the Community Policing approach to further ensure that our communities are free from crime,” said CIP Gasaraba.

He warned the group against aiding illegal and criminal activities but help communities in maintaining peace and safety for both lives and property.

CIP Gasaraba also reminded taxi-moto operators of their duty to maintain road safety by respecting traffic rules.

"Do not consume alcohol while at work, otherwise you will put your lives and the passengers’ lives at risk. Always be honest and patriotic,” he added.

The head of COTAMORWA, Jean Damascene Mbarukuze, thanked Police for reaching out to them. "We have a unique working relationship with the Police but, from this meeting, we recommit to take this partnership to the next level,” Mbarukuze said.

"We, as commercial motorcyclists, have to play a primary role in crime prevention but we can only achieve that through partnership with all the security agencies.”
