At least 3,500 jobs will be added to the labour market once the new business complex launched on Wednesday in Kicukiro District becomes fully operational.

The new complex is locally known as Agakiriro.

It was constructed by Kicukiro Steel and Wood Work Cooperative (KSWC) at an estimated Rwf1 billion,The 72-member cooperative aims at promoting locally made products.

The center will also host craft makers who were relocated to centralise their trade.

Dr Jeanne Nyirahabimana, the mayor of Kicukiro, said the new commercial centre is an opportunity for members to work closely with one another, which she noted will be an "accelerator of Made-in-Rwanda products”.

"Not only does relocation aim at implementing Kigali Master Plan, but also to boost Made-in-Rwanda products through teamwork. Working in isolated places does not contribute much. Working together plays a crucial role in the development of any work.”

"Coming together will give your products more value. There is eased accessibility, teamwork, sharing experience and also security,” Nyirahabimana said.

Claudie Uwanyirigira, the president of KSWC in charge of Agakiriro, said the new complex will be a source of income for anyone who has craft-making skills.

Angelique Mukunde, the district vice-mayor in charge of economic development, said the Agakiriro is an open enterprise to all people and not only Kicukiro residents.

She added that Rwandans should embrace locally-made products to help reduce the import bill.

Pratais Kayishime called on Rwanda Revenue Authority to ease their taxation requirements for start up businesses.
