Rwanda National Police has summoned Ranghella Giuseppe, the ex-husband to embattled city businesswoman Josephine Uwamwezi, over the guns that were discovered in the latter’s house, prompting her arrest.

This follows the decision early this week by prosecution to release Uwamwezi, commonly known as Nyiragasazi, on bail, two weeks after she was arrested.

Speaking to The New Times yesterday Assistant Commissioner of Police Celestin Twahirwa, the Police spokesperson, said Giuseppe was wanted to "assist in the ongoing investigation” and should report to any nearby police station as soon as he steps on Rwandan territory.

Police does not know the whereabouts of the man, who has for several years been divorced from his wife, but during the interview, Twahirwa said that there is no warrant of arrest against him, hence not a subject of an Interpol Red Notice.

"It is basically a summon to help in an ongoing investigation,” said Twahirwa.

Meanwhile, speaking to The New Times, Faustin Nkusi, the prosecution spokesperson said that during the different interrogations, Uwamwezi clearly demonstrated that the six guns, all of hunting type, belonged to her husband and that they had been legally registered.

"She was released at the prosecution level, last Monday after we found that the guns were licensed, so we gave her a conditional bail, where she is requested to report to Prosecution every Monday, and she can’t go beyond boundaries of the City of Kigali,” he said.

Uwamwezi was arrested early this month after the rifles were recovered by workers as they demolished her house to pave way for the construction of a new road connecting from The New Times’ offices to the Kacyiru-Kimihurura road, just behind Kigali Heights, a new shopping complex that is under construction.
