Despite the dismal performance, Rwanda national cricket team won the fair play award in the just concluded T20 ICC division 2 cricket tournament held in South Africa from April 15-19

Rwanda’s Don Dieu Mugisha was also named the player of the tournament.

"We tried our level best to win the tournament,” said the team captain Eric Dusingizimana. He added that the team spirit was very good and all players conducted themselves well while in South Africa.

"I am excited about the player of the tournament award I have received. I dedicate this award to my country Rwanda that I represented in this tournament,” said Mugisha.

Rwanda had the youngest team and won the fair play and the most disciplined team in the entire tournament.

"We get back to Kigali with no trophy in our hands but it’s a lesson for us that in the next tournament we shall take it like others have done,” added Mugisha.

The national cricket team had a miserable outing after failing to win any game. Rwanda which has participated in this tournament since 2004 lost all the games against Sierra Leone and Mozambique in the first and second round. It is the first time the national cricket team has failed to win any game in the tournament.

Sierra Leone which was the champion in this tournament was promoted to the ICC division 1 which comprises of Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and Botswana.
