After a long wait, the second round of the second division football league will get underway on April 30 after a four-month break.

The development was confirmed yesterday by the second tier clubs’ president John Uwintwari. The dates were fixed after a meeting between local football governing body (FERWAFA) and officials from second division on Tuesday.

"We shall resume the league on Sunday next week and we shall be playing on weekends and mid week so as to conclude the league in time,” said Uwintwari

The lower division was put on hold on January 4 after the end of the first round to facilitate the smooth running of the 4th edition of the CAF Orange Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), which was hosted by Rwanda from January 16 to February 7.

Albeit after the conclusion of the biennial tournament, the lower division which was scheduled to start on February 12 failed to resume on time after competing clubs failed to secure funds from the Ministry of Sports and Culture (MINISPOC).

MINISPOC declined the request arguing that the funds were not included in this year’s budget.

"Clubs will cater for themselves because we have no other option. We hope we shall successfully play despite such a setback,” he added

As it stands in pool A, Vision FC top the table with 23 points, former topflight league side La Jeunesse are second with 19 points, Vision JN sit third also with 19 points while Espeerance FC stand fourth with 18 points.

In pool B, Interforce leads the standing with 26 points, three ahead of second-placed Kirehe FC. Etoile de l’Est rank third with 21 points while Pepiniere are 4th with 20 points.
