RWANDA cycling team riders kick-off their bid for top honors at the 6th Tour of Eritrea this morning at 11am (10am CAT). The competition runs from April 19 to 23. Today is stage one of the five-days long showcases, departing from Barentu to Tesseney on a distance of 112km.

Today is stage one of the five-days long showcases, departing from Barentu to Tesseney on a distance of 112km. The whole race will cover a total distance of 670km and is part UCI African Tour. Tour of Eritrea like Tour of Rwanda, is ranked in the 2.2 category.
After faring quiet well in Fenkil Northern Red Sea Challenge and Massawa Circuit over the weekend, Jonathan Boyer’s riders are in buoyant mood to shine, ready for what it takes to challenge favorite homeboys such as Tesfom Okubamarian and Meron Teshome among others.
Captained by Patrick Byukusenge, the team in Eritrea also includes Camera Hakuzimana, Joseph Areruya, Ephrem Tuyushime, Jean Claude Uwizeye and Samuel Mugisha. The team is accompanied by head coach Jonathan Boyer, mechanic Jamie Bissell and masseur Obedi Ruvogera.
The sixth edition of the annual meet has attracted a total of ten teams namely Rwanda, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan, Germany’s Stradalli- Bike Aid, Amorovitta of Ukraine, Eritrean national team and two select teams Selina and Txinat cycling teams both from Eritrea.
Riders will be vying for five different jerseys namely the champion jersey (yellow), sprint point Jersey (green), white and red polka dot jersey (king of the mountains), best young rider jersey (white) and best non-Eritrean rider jersey (blue).
