Police in Kirehe District are holding a 23-year-old man who was found in possession of an assortment of pharmaceutical products, which he allegedly acquired and sold on the black market.

Danny Muhoza was arrested on Saturday during a Police cordon and search operation in Kigina Sector.

He was found with several packets of Coartem, a malaria drug, Arrhythmic, Amoxicillin and paracetamol.

The pharmaceuticals were recovered in his home.

Police said Muhoza’s actions contravene the law relating to the pharmaceutical art.

Pharmaceutical Art means any act aimed at preparing, manufacturing, quality controlling, conditioning, preserving, and dispensing, even without charge, of drugs or other pharmaceutical products.

The Eastern region Police spokesperson, Emmanuel Kayigi, warned against such acts, saying it puts people’s lives at "high risk.”

"This is a serious offense that undermines the credibility of our health systems,” Kayigi said, appealing to communities residing at border towns to always be on the look out and report such people who smuggle goods and drugs into the country.

"People should also seek proper medical services from recognised pharmacies, clinics, health centres and hospitals,” he said.
