A group of unidentified armed men from the DR Congo Friday night crossed the border into Rwanda and attacked a police station at Bugeshi, Rubavu District, Western Province.
The armed group was confronted by Rwandan police backed up by a patrol unit of the RDF, repelling the attack and forcing gunmen to flee back in into the DRC.
This is the second incident of an attack on Rwanda from the DRC.
Last month, an armed man wearing DR Congo military uniform was killed on the Rwandan territory following an attack on a Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) base at Nyiramugweri hill in Bugeshi Sector, Rubavu District.
Capt Edward Kalisa, an RDF commander in the area, told reporters then that a group of between 16 and 20 soldiers, fully armed and dressed in fatigues of the DR Congo armed forces, attacked their base in the night and shot at the RDF soldiers, which prompted the latter to retaliate with an ensuing fire exchange lasting about 30 minutes.
The attack was likely backed by the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) who were dressed in DR Congo army fatigues.
Operating in DR Congo for over two decades, the FDLR is an outfit that was founded and still composed of perpetrators of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
