Police leadership in the Western Province has facilitated recovery of stolen property including money belonging to one Claudine Dusabimana, a genocide survivor in Rubavu District.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Celestin Twahirwa, the Police spokesperson, said that Dusabimana brought her complaint to police seeking assistance to recover her property, which had been fraudulently taken by other people, including a police officer identified as Inspector of Police (IP) Alex Bwanashyamba, who had adopted her.
"She claimed that the police officer had cheated her of Rwf350, 000, which was a compensation he received on her behalf, resulting from a decision by Gacaca court," ACP Twahirwa said.
"Rwanda National Police refunded Dusabimana and took disciplinary action against the implicated police officer,” Meanwhile, Rwanda National Police and Rubavu District have resolved to help the woman acquire accommodation. "At the moment, a house will be rented for her and her two children until a permanent house is built for her," Twahirwa explained. Police is working with Rutsiro District, her ancestral home, Ibuka and other concerned entities, to recover other claimed property including land.
