Despite years of no league trophies in the team’s cabinet, Police FC coach Cassa Mbungo believes that the law enforcers can win the Rwanda league title this season.
After defeating AS Kigali 1-0 on Sunday to win three crucial points that moved his side to 5th position, the coach said, "We can now challenge the top teams and compete for both the league title and continental qualification next season.”
"Let me thank God for the win we managed to get against AS Kigali, I thank players for the commitment they have shown. It is not easy to make a comeback especially after the exit from the CAF confederation games, usually it takes some time.”
Mbungo said his mission this season is to win the title, adding that many coaches have tried to do so with Police but failed because it is a big challenge.
"To me this is the main objective. If we lost this game we would not be contenders this season,” Mbungo who believes Sunday’s win was vital added.
Danny Usengimana scored for Police in the 59th minute. The law enforcers have a game in hand away to Etincelles on Friday at Umuganda stadium before ending the first round of the 2015/16 Premier League season.
So far, they have won 7, drawn 6 and lost only one game.
Victory will see coach Mbungo and his side move to 30 points with eight wins, two points ahead of AS Kigali which has a game against reigning champions APR FC at Stade de Kigali on the same day.
The law enforcers have never won a league title except the 2015 Peace Cup.
