Fashion: There’s a certain ring to it

I’ve always held that a ring is a magic accessory. Subtle or showy, a ring does wonders to enhance your look. A ring does not need to be limited only to married women or men. Wearing a casual ring can be very elegant and stylish indeed. “Everyone has the right to wear the ring, after all nobody cares about which finger to wear a ring on, as long as the ring looks good and fits well,” says Grace Mugabe, of B&M.

I’ve always held that a ring is a magic accessory. Subtle or showy, a ring does wonders to enhance your look. A ring does not need to be limited only to married women or men. Wearing a casual ring can be very elegant and stylish indeed.

"Everyone has the right to wear the ring, after all nobody cares about which finger to wear a ring on, as long as the ring looks good and fits well,” says Grace Mugabe, of B&M.

Accessories Shop, in Kigali’s commercial centre. Whether they be gorgeous metallic rings, big cocktail rings, or vertiginous rings, worn right they will give you that little bit extra.

"I have to admit I like rings,” says Carol Giramata, 23. "I often wear larger rings, because I want people to notice my gorgeous jewelry.”

Teenage girls believe casual rings are mainly single gems on a stunning band, but there are a select few that include other stones or styles that still make the wearer standout. Like other accessories, rings are no longer a woman’s thing, because men have also embraced the trend.

It’s no longer news to see men copying women’s fashions and the trend for rings is a spectacular fashion for a man, says Peterson Twahirwa, a businessman. Today, unlike in the past, men also have the right to pursue latest trends.

"Men normally wear big rings with multi gemstone inlay design, which is ok, because it makes a man look stylish and cool,” says Twahirwa.

A word of caution

Do not follow fashion trends haphazardly. Feeling of comfort with what you wear is always more important than complying with the latest craze. Pick the trends that work for you.

"It’s not proper for one to swallow anything wholesale in the name of fashion. I’m always disappointed in people who fill almost all their fingers with rings of different colours,” says Alex Kayijuka, a student of Kigali Institute of Education (KIE).

A little extra

Huge rings look perfect on long fingers, but people with smaller hands can look great if they limit themselves to discreet sizes.

While as fashion experts claim that it’s apt for people to wear accessories that are in proportion to their body, it’s advised that extra-large rings are not perfect for tiny people.
