IPRC-South have resuscitated their hopes for the hoops league title after defeating APR while United Generation Basketball (UGB) stunned holders Espoir over the weekend.
The Huye-based IPRC-South mauled former champions APR 62-37 on Saturday in Huye district to go top of the table standings, leapfrogging defending champions Espoir, who were shocked by youthful United UGB 73-68 on Friday night.
IPRC- South won the first, third and fourth quarter 14-6, 16-6 and 20-10 respectively while Cliff Owuor’s APR took the second quarter, 14-12.
Skipper Bienvenu Niyonsaba scored the game high 19 points while Point-guard Yesman Bushiri and small forward Sunny Niyomugabo added 15 and 13 points respectively. Eric Munyaneza with 13 points was APR’s highest scorer.
Elsewhere, IPRC- Kigali pounded struggling Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) 94-49 on Sunday; two days after the later also lost 66-38 to Moise Mutokambali’s U18 Boys Team.
In women’s league, reigning champions APR won 65-57 over IPRC-South.
IPRC-South tops the table with 25 points from 14 games, Espoir are second, also with 25 points but the former have a better score average, IPRC- Kigali are third on 24 points while Patriots come fourth with 21 points and three games in hand.
