YouthFUL members of the Centrist Democratic Party (PDC) countrywide have been urged to stand up and fight against the spread of the genocide ideology through social media.

The call was made by Agnes Mukabaranga, the party president, on Saturday in Kigali during a one-day training on fighting against genocide ideology.

"We organised the training to remind and prepare our youth for the forthcoming 22nd commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi. We have also looked at the available opportunities that the country has availed for our young generation in line with fighting unemployment,” said Mukabaranga.

"You find constructive and destructive information on social media. We should, therefore, be able to sieve through this and challenge that information that you find laced with genocide ideology,” she added.

Mukabaranga said majority of youth today were infants during the Genocide while others were not yet born, but urged them to read more about the events in the country so that they challenge those perpetuating the genocide ideology from an informed viewpoint.

Clever Gatabazi, who is in charge of memory and prevention of Genocide at National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), tasked youth to report any case of genocide ideology and respond to such information spread via social media.

"Your primary responsibility is to change the mindset of people full of genocide ideology. The youth should also learn the history of the country and actively participate in commemoration activities,” said Gatabazi, referring to the Genocide commemoration due to start on April 7.
