Handball league defending champions Police extended their lead at the top of the league table to three points after overwhelming University of Rwanda’s College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) on Saturday in Huye.

The four-time league winners stretched their two-year unbeaten record after beating UR-CASS 60-28 with Gilbert Mutuyimana scoring game high 12 goals, while Olivier Ndagijimana pulled off 11 goals for the losing hosts.

Antoine Ntabanganyimana’s side lead the league table with 15 points, three ahead of archrivals APR, who are in second place having played a game less.

"I am happy we have won the game comfortably but it’s still too early in the season, the competition is closer this season because our closest rivals (APR) have not lost any game too, so we have to keep winning our matches to be on the safe side,” he said.

Elsewhere, University of Rwanda’s College of Education defeated Nyakabanda 25-23, with Jean Claude Nkurunziza scoring five goals.

Following last weekend’s games, the league takes a short break and will return on April 23 after the Genocide Commemoration week.
