Rwanda women national football league archrivals AS Kigali and Kamonyi will face-off in the first round clash on Sunday at the Kigali Regional Stadium in Nyamirambo with each side vowing to grab all three points to go top of the table.
Record seven-time reigning champions AS Kigali have never lost to Kamonyi since 2009 and according to head coach Grace Nyinawumuntu, her girls are determined to maintain that impressive record.
"We are ready for the game, and we shall be playing at our familiar pitch. We expect a tough challenge from Kamonyi, who will also come determined to win,” said Nyinawumuntu.
Meanwhile, Kamonyi coach Emmanuel Habiyambere noted that his side will approach the game like a final in their bid to end AS Kigali seven-year grip on the league.
He said, "This week has been a busy one for us, we travelled to Muhanga to train on a synthetic pitch ahead of Saturday’s match, which we are eager to win because it is a crucial game in our title chase.”
The two sides have played two and won both, and the winner of tomorrow’s game, will lead the league table.
