RWANDA is yet to name the Amavubi squad which will participate in this year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup set for December 31-January 13 in Kampala.

Rwanda’s football governing body, Ferwafa said yesterday that the federation’s technical committee is yet to decide on which team will represent Rwanda in the two-week long tournament following a re-schedule of the tournament which had initially been scheduled for this month.

While commenting on Cecafa’s recent decision to postpone the event (due to regional leagues outcry),Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa criticized move saying it wasn’t called for.

"We had planned to field the U-20 squad before the tournament was shifted to late December but now it’s the technical committee which will make a final decision,” Kalisa said.

Kalisa added that the final decision on which team would go for the event in Kampala rests in the hands of Amavubi Stars head coach Branko Tucak and the federation technical committee.

He however, noted the selected team will not affect the U-20 team participation in next year’s African Youth Championship to be hosted in Kigali from January 18-February 1.

Meanwhile, GTV will sink $500.000 (approx. Frw276 millions) into this year’s Senior Challenge Cup.

Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye said on Thursday that the money will cater for the air tickets, accommodation, prizes and other logistics for the participating teams.

The draw will take place in Kampala in a fortnight’s time.
