Rwanda women national sitting volleyball team has a lot to put in order before their dream debut at the 2016 summer Paralympic Games slated for September 8-17 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Assistant Coach Jean Marie Nsegiyumva made the remarks yesterday following the team’s poor show at the 2016 Intercontinental and World ParaVolley Championship held from March 17-23 in Tangqi Town, Hangzhou City, China.
Peter Karreman’s side lost all the games in straight sets enduring a series of six defeats at hands of United States, Canada, Brazil, Ukraine, Iran and hosts China.
"It was a wakeup call and we have a lot to improve before the Paralympics games to be serious contenders,” said Nsengiyumva
He further revealed that among the areas to put much emphasis include improving blocking techniques and increasing the speed of the games which was relatively slow compared to their opponents at the one-week long tournament.
"We lost many game because we couldn’t cope with their pace so we are going increase on our game speed so as to reach the same standard as our opponents,” he added
The team will continue weekend training sessions until May when they expect to be joined up by head Coach Karreman for an intensive training camp as part of their road map journey to Rio.
