U-17 African Championship
Second Round
First leg-Nov. 7-11
Burkina Faso v Rwanda
CONSIDERING the intensive preparations held in Germany for the past two weeks, the Rwanda’s U-17 football team is positive about attaining maximum points against Burkina Faso in the first leg of the African Youth Championship set for next weekend in Ouagadougou.
The U-17 head coach Michael Weiss told Times Sport in an e-mail from the team’s training camp in Germany that the squad is being prepared physically, technically and tactically.
"Tactically, the defensive department has been skilled to bring the team in a compact state, where the opponent will face difficulty to penetrate behind our defensive lines.
"Offensively, the squad is very creative and will at anytime be able to score goals,” Weiss said. The German-born coach also confirmed that this team played two warm-up matches against a senior team from the (Germany) 4th league and an U-19 top Bundesliga team from Frankfurt but lost both matches 6-4 and 4-3 respectively.
However, Weiss was satisfied with the performances saying, "In the preparation matches, am always looking to how best I can correct the team’s weaknesses.”
"I believe the noted weaknesses (tactical and mental) will be rectified before we head to Burkina Faso next week,” he noted.
