Local and international experts on health financing are meeting to discuss the desired health financing modifications and how they can be aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to health minister, Dr. Agnes Binagwaho, reforms in health financing helped Rwanda to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which preceded the SDGs.
The experts meeting taking place at Golden Tulip Hotel since Tuesday is attended by over 150 participants who will hold sessions and deliberations on how current health financing policies can be a stepping-stone towards achieving the SDGs.
The sustainable development goals are a new, universal set of goals, targets and indicators that UN member states will be expected to use to frame their agendas and political policies over the next 14 years.
"One of the goals of this meeting is to bring national and international experts, especially those who have contributed in the design and implementation of health financing reforms in Rwanda and discuss the current state of health financing policies and brainstorm about the future directions” read a statement from the Ministry of Health.
The discussions from the meeting will feed into the current government process of developing a health sustainability plan for the whole health sector.
