After winning two medals at the 10th IPC Grand Prix de Tunis, Rwanda international Paralympian Hermas Cliff Muvunyi has shifted focus to the 2016 Paralympic Games slated for September 7-18 in Brazil.
The former World champion in Men 800m- T46 Category, Muvunyi did what he does best at the annual Tunis International Meet to win two medals, gold in 400m and bronze in 1500m, both in T46 category. This year’s edition was held from March 24 to 26 in Tunisia’s capital.
After displaying a delightful performance in Tunisia alongside compatriot Jean Claude Ndayisenga who also won bronze in Men’s 400m- T47 category, the sensational middle distance runner Muvunyi is keen to replicate the good form at this year’s Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil.
"To date, a Paralympic medal is what I need to accomplish my career goals. The competition will be a very tough contest, it’s going to require hard work, willpower and resilience and that’s what I am ready to invest. I will do everything possible for a podium finish in Brazil,” Muvunyi told Times Sport on Monday.
After winning multiple medals in various continental competitions and a world championship gold medal from France in 2013, his dream is bagging a medal in Paralympic.
The APR athletics club runner further revealed to this paper that after a short break to shrug off fatigue from Tunisia, he will resume regular training at Amahoro stadium.
The 28-year-old reigning national champion Muvunyi and sprinter Ndayisenga arrived back in the country on Monday afternoon.
