Defending champions INATEK have defeated rivals APR 3-0 to remain unbeaten in the national volleyball league this season—the match was played at Amahoro Indoor Stadium on Saturday night.
APR started well the first set, leading 13-10 to 20-18 with the dominance of captain Aimable Mutuyimana and centers Guillaume Irakarama and Fabrice Nkezabahizi.
But INATEK captain Olivier Ntagengwa showed why he one of the best spikers of the ball in the country by guiding his team 27-25 in the first set.
Players like Vincent Dusabimana, William Mudahemuka and Uganda international right attacker Daudi Okello played key roles in the win for the Ngoma district-based side. INATEK took the second set 25-23 and the third set 25-19.
At the half of the league, Dominic Ntawangundi’s side leads the table with 20 points, five ahead of second-placed APR.
Kirehe beat Lycee de Nyanza to stay in third position with 12 points, level with IPRC-South in fourth position although Kirehe still have a game in hand against Rayon Sports, who are in fourth position with 11 points. Rayon Sports defeated Kigali Volleyball Club 3-2 (25-20, 13-25, 25-17, 23 – 25 and 15-10).
Umubano Blue Tigers lost at home against IPRC-South 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19 to remain bottom with three points and one behind Lycee de Nyanza.
In the women league, Rwanda Revenue Authority lead the table with 18 points without losing single game, followed by APR with 12 points, same margin with Ruhango, who lost to St Aloys 3-1 on Saturday.
