FIBA African Central Board of basketball has announced that Rwanda will stage the 2016 FIBA Men’s Africa U-18 Championships in July.
It will be returning to Rwanda six years after it was last held there in 2010, and the will be the third time for the host nation to participate in tournament including the 2012 edition held in Maputo, Mozambique. Meanwhile, FIBA Afro Basketball has also named Egypt, the 2014 champions, as the organizers of the Women’s Under 18 category.
Republic of Congo, who recently demonstrated a great know-how in organizing high level tournament by hosting the 2015 All African Games, will stage the 2017 edition of the FIBA Afro Basket.
Twelve teams will do battle for supremacy in the age category in Africa but also to claim the two places on offer to qualify for the 2017 FIBA U19 Men’s World Championship that will take place for the first time in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo.
The same number of teams will battle at the U18 Women’s Championship in Egypt for the right be crowned queens of Africa, and the top two teams booking their places for the 2017 FIBA U19 Women’s World Championship that will be held in Italy.
FIBA Africa’s Central Board is also still evaluating the candidates for the right to host the 2016 FIBA Africa Champions Cups for Men and Women.
