Rwanda national men’s cricket team coach Davis Turinawe has expressed his satisfaction with the team’s preparations and expects a good performance at the upcoming ICC Division 2 Tournament.
The Ugandan coach has selected the 14-man squad to represent the country in the week-long tournament which will run from April 15-20 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The team will depart onApril 14.
Speaking to the Times Sport, Turinawe, a former Uganda international said, "We have been practicing daily and I am confident the team is ready for the tournament. The players are in good spirit and well motivated for the competition.”
Rwanda, in the same group with Mozambique and Sierra Leon, won the ICC Division 3 tournament which was held in Accra, Ghana in 2011.
However, on their debut in Division Two, Rwanda managed one win against Gambia and lost to both Swaziland and Sierra Leaon, hence being demoted to Division 2.
But it was later discovered that Swaziland, who had won the tournament, had used non-nationals, and were banned from taking part in the tournament hence reinstating Rwanda as the second team behind Sierra Leon.
Full squad:
Eric Dusingizimana, Eric Hirwa, Don Dieu Mugisha, Derick Bayingana, Sruthin Gopi, Fiston Nsengiyunva, Eric Niyomugabo, Clinton Rubagumya, Orchide Tuyisenge, Yvan Mitali, Bob Bashir Songa, Fredy Ndayisenga, Zappy Maurice Bimenyimana and Evode Mutuyimana.
