The government in partnership with different companies has launched a  laptop purchase programme for university students.

The initiative will enable students and lecturers in universities to acquire  laptops through a convenient payment mode that will see students pay installments as little as Rwf17,288 per month.

During the launch of the project at the University of Rwanda’s College of Business and Economics, students and lecturers acquired the Made in Rwanda laptops manufactured by Positivo BGH.

For any student at university, or an academic,  a laptop is an essential tool in the modern education system which is largely driven by Information Communication Technology (ICTs) .

The world has become a global village and days  of analog education are no more.

Rwanda’s education system must keep abreast with the global education trends and embrace digital education.

Digital or smart education ensures high quality  and is also much more cost-effective in terms of money and time.

Therefore, the  coming of this project is timely and a well thought out strategy to boost the quality  of education in higher institutions of learning. The initiative will go a long way to help every student in university to afford a laptop and subsequently improve the way they study and do research.

Research is the core function of universities, and indeed all universities emphasize the need for students to do research for all their assessments.

All stakeholders including parents and education NGOs  should support this project by helping needy students in universities to acquire the laptops.

The initiative marks an important milestone in the education sector and will ensure graduates are equipped with relevant skills to be competitive on the job market.

Students should take advantage of this opportunity and acquire the laptops  which will help them to meet their academics goals.
