IPRC- Kigali stunned counterparts of IPRC-South 81-76 in the national basketball league on Saturday in overtime, in doing so became the first team to at the Huye-based side’s home court this season.
Title hopefuls IPRC-South were favorites but failed to use the home advantage as IPRC-Kigali showed that they can stand their own against the top teams.
Regular time ended with both teams tied at 69-all before Albert Buhake’s IPRC- Kigali displayed a fantastic game in five minutes of overtime, eventually winning the game 81-76, to hand their counterparts a third defeat of the season.
Former APR and Patriots small forward Sunny Niyomugabo scored the game high 26 points while Fabrice Rukundo added 15 points for IPRC-South, while Steve Havugintwari (20 points) and Dieudonne Ndizeye (14 points) combined for a total 34 points for the victors, who now joint third.
Elsewhere, four-time reigning champions Espoir registered the biggest win of the season by any team, with a 126-54 victory against struggling Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) at Amahoro indoors stadium.
As it stands, Espoir moved to the top the table with 22 points from 12 games, one point ahead of second-paced Patriots, who have a game less in 11 games while IPRC-South and IPRC-Kigali are tied on third with 21 points each from 12 games.
