Rwandan teams APR FC and Police FC were eliminated from this year’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup by Young African (Yanga SC) and Vita Club Mokanda, respectively, on Saturday.

In Dar es Salaam, APR held Tanzanian giants Yanga Sports Club to a 1-1 draw but it wasn’t enough following last week’s 2-1 home defeat in the first leg.

Young midfielder Fiston Nkezingabo gave the Rwandan league champions the lead in the 15th minute before Donald Ngoma equalized 13 minutes later.

Yanga progressed to the second qualification round on 3-2 aggregate score and will face the winner between Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Angola’s Recreativo do Libolo, who played out a goalless draw in first leg in Angola.

At Kigali Regional Stadium, Police FC were left licking their wounds losses after striker Mathias Osagatsama scored lone goal of the game in the 80th minute. The first leg had ended goalless.

Congo Brazzaville’s side Vita Club Mokanda booked their place in the second round of the 16th round 2016 CAF Confederation Cup, following a 1-0 aggregate win.

The home side had enough chances to win the game but Gabriel Mugabo, Dany Usengimana, Heritier Turatsinze Innocent Habyarimana, Rachid Kalisa and Isaie Songa all squanderred their opportunities.

"I am disappointed because we have had so many chances to score and win the game but we failed to use any of them,” Police Fc head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo said after the game.

His counterpart Alain Kayi said: "Police made a mistake and we used our chance, so I am happy to win the game and to qualify for the next round. They (Police) played well but for us, the most important thing is the win, and we got it away from home.”

Vita Club Mokanda will play against the winner between Angola’s Sagrada Esperança and Mozambique’s Liga Desportiva de Maputo in the second round.
