For the second year in a row, Rwanda’s number one Jean-Baptiste Hakizimana failed to make the cut at the 2016 Barclay's Kenya Open, which ends today at Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

The 29-year-old Hakizimana shot four-over-par 76 on day one and three-over-par 75 on day two hence missing the cut by 7 shots, a decline on last year when he shot 72 on the first day and 73 on day two.

Speaking to Sunday Sport by phone from Nairobi, Hakizimana said, "I had enough time to practice before the tournament however, I just couldn’t put my game together, I tried my level best but I haven’t been lucky.”

With a wealth of experience gained while in United States for almost the whole of 2015, Hakizimana, was scheduled to return to the country last evening.

"I don’t think we (Rwandans) are bad at the game but rather we are probably not good enough when compared to top golfers from other countries, especially in major tournaments like this one (Kenya Open), which attracts elite players from far as South Africa and Europe,” he admitted.

By press time, South African Jacques Blaauw had finished the day as clubhouse leader with a 10-under par 134 score after the first two rounds.

He was closely followed by Swede Sebastian Soderberg and South African Danie Van Tonder, who both finished the day 9-under par.
