Rayon Sports coach Djuma Masudi has vowed to turn the former league champions into an attacking side capable of dominating ball possession during matches.
The interim coach made the promise after his team romped to a 3-0 victory against Musanze FC on Sunday at Kigali Regional Stadium.
The 2013 league champions scored their goals through Malian striker Ismaila Diarra in the 66th minute, and Ugandan import Davis Kasirye, three minutes later before youngster Kevin Muhire netted the third in the dying minutes of the game.
The win pushed Masudi’s side to third position with 29 points in 14 matches, three points behind leaders Mukura Victory Sports, and one point adrift of defending champions APR, who are in second place, albeit with three games in hand. Musanze remain in 11th spot with 15 points in 15 matches.
"It was fantastic performance from my team. I wanted attacking football and they did it. We didn’t give Musanze time to settle on the ball, so I am happy with the result, but we must continue the improvement in each game,” said the former Rayon Sports captain.
The former Burundi international added, "My ambition is to see Rayon Sports playing attacking football and to win more consistently.”
Meanwhile, Musanze FC’s Ugandan coach, George Semwogerere, said, "It is not surprising… you expect to lose to big teams. My defenders didn’t follow the instructions we gave them, and if you do not follow what the coaches say, you get punished like we did today (Sunday).”
Elsewhere, hosts Sunrise FC were held to 1-all draw by Amagaju at Rwamagana police ground. Striker Alexis Nkomezi put Sunrise ahead before Adolphe Hakundukize equalised for the visitors. Sunrise remain in ninth position with 19 points, one ahead of Amagaju.
