American point guard Destiney Philoxy has joined Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women basketball club ahead of the 2023 FIBA Africa Women's Basketball League (AWBL).
Due in Cairo, Egypt, from December 11-19, the AWBL serves as Africa’s biggest showpiece in women's club basketball.

A reliable source from the club management confirmed to Times Sport that an agreement has been reached with the 23-year-old who will join her teammates on Monday, December 4.

Destiney was part of the Rwandan women’s national team that finished in fourth place at the 2023 Women’s Afrobasket that took place in Kigali in August where she averaged 17.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

She becomes club’s latest addition following recent acquisitions of American point guard Nia Clouden and combo guard Tiffany Mitchell, two top players who ply their trade at Los Angeles Sparks and Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA.
With the signings, REG Women promises to be a team to watch at the continental big stage despite making its maiden appearance at the AWBL competition.
