The national women football league that was scheduled to kick off this weekend has been postponed to next weekend, the head of women football in FERWAFA, Felicite Rwemalika has confirmed.
"The championship will start the following weekend because the match officials first have to undergo high-intensity fitness assessment tests before it (championship) starts,” she said on Thursday.
Initially, the women’s league was scheduled to start in January but was called off because of the African Nations Championships (CHAN) 2016 held in Rwanda. A new date was set, but that also won’t be possible.
Rwanda women football league is sponsored by FIFA through its annual Goal Program grant. Last year, over US$ 112,500 (about Rwf 86,398,230) was released to FERWAFA for women football development. AS Kigali have won the women’s league a record seven times.
