BUJUMBURA- One person was killed and six others injured in a grenade explosion on Sunday night in a bar at Bugarama in Muramvya province, 30 km east of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, administration sources said Monday.

"Unidentified people detonated a grenade in a bar at Bugarama, slightly injuring six persons on their legs or arms. Another person who had hypertension died on the spot due to the explosion," Muramvya Governor Emmanuel Niyungeko told Xinhua by phone.

According to him, the injured victims were taken to Muramvya hospital.

Niyungeko indicated that eight suspects were arrested Monday morning in connection with the grenade blast.

Some parts of the east African nation and its capital Bujumbura in particular have been facing insecurity since April 2015 when President Pierre Nkurunziza announced the controversial decision to run for a third term which he eventually won in a presidential election boycotted by main opposition candidates in July.
