Rayon eye win to keep title hopes in sight

Rayon Sports will be seeking to bounce back from the draw against Espoir FC when they face Amagaju in the National Football League on Tuesday at Nyagisenyi stadium in Nyamagabe district.

After being held to 1-1 draw by Alphonse Gatera’s Espoir FC on Saturday at Kigali Regional Stadium, Rayon Sports need a win against Abdul Bizimana’s team, if interim coach Djuma Masudi is to avoid falling off the title race halfway the season.

Last season, Rayon Sports won the first round fixture 1-0, thanks to Peter Otema’s strike at Nyagisenyi stadium while the second round ended 1-1 at Kigali Regional Stadium.

Amagaju is in tenth position with 17 points from 13 matches while Rayon are fourth with 26 points and two games before winding up league first round.

Mukura Victory Sports are top of the table with 32 points in 15 matches, four points ahead of second-placed AS Kigali, defending champions APR FC are in third position with 27 points. Etincelles and AS Muhanga occupy the bottom two places with seven and four points respectively.

Else where today, Emmanuel Ruremesha’s Gicumbi FC, in eighth place with 18 points host Espoir, who are in 11th position with 15 points from 14 matches.

Meanwhile, the match-day 13 fixture between Marines and Police FC, which was supposed to be played on Monday at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, was moved to March 15, to allow Police time to prepare for their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Vita Club Mokanda of Congo Brazzaville.

FERWAFA took the decision to move the game following a request by Andre Cassa Mbungo’s team, who travel to Brazzaville for the first qualification round, first leg match set for this Saturday.
