Kamonyi 17-15 Muhanga

Kamonyi Pumas have continued their excellent run this season after overcoming Muhanga 17-15 in the Southern Province rugby league on Saturday, to remain top of the table with 12 points.

The visitors scored five penalties through young full-back Emmanuel Iradukunda, who has proved a star among Muhanga’s young squad. Muhanga led 9-8 going into half time, thanks to three penalties from Iradukunda.

However, Pumas scored three penalties in the second half by fly half Emmanuel Hatangimana. This was to add to a first half penalty and try by Hatangiman and winger Alex Nzeyimana.

According to Adolphe Ntitenguha Matata, the Pumas head coach/player (prop), the win which completed a league double over struggling Muhanga, is a sign of the team gelling. Kamonyi Pumas won 11-10 in the first round in Muhanga.

"We are playing like a team; we attack and defend as a team. We were individualistic in the beginning but we have worked on that,” said Mahata.

Muhanga RFC have just 3 losing bonus points from 4 games. The other league game between Rusizi-based Resilience and U.R Grizzlies was cancelled after the University side failed to make the trip.
