Police FC 2-1 Musanze FC

Police FC defeated Musanze 2-1 in the national football league on Friday at Kigali Regional Stadium to maintain fifth place and reduced the gap on leaders Mukura to eight points.

Strikers Isaie Songa and Idesbald Nshuti were on target for Andre Cassa Mbungo’s side, who moved to 24 points, one behind fourth-placed Rayon Sports and a further four points adrift of AS Kigali in second place. Defending champions APR FC are third with 27 points.

Forward Hussein Renzaho scored the consolation goal for Musanze FC, who also remain stuck on the 12th position with 12 points in twelve matches.

"I am satisfied with the performance of my team but we have to work hard ahead of the next matches, we will continue to try and win more games,” Cassa Mbungo said.

The former AS Kigali tactician added, "It is a tough season, and we expected it was going to be tougher than before but we are ready to challenge for the title. We have the local league matches and the CAF Confederation Cup, so we have to be ready to balance both competitions.”

Meanwhile, Musanze head coach George Semwogerere admitted that they tried to win the game but Police were just too strong for his team.

"We have given our best to win the game but it was very hard to beat a very strong Police side,” the former Uganda international center back said after the match.

Earlier on Thursday, reigning champions APR edged past Amagaju FC 2-1 to move above Rayon Sports into third thanks to goals from Ntamuhanga Tumaine and Fiston Nkizingabo.

Southern Province-based Amagaju got their consolation goal through Dieudonne Munezero to remain tenth on the standings with 17 points.

Mukura Victory Sports, who lost 1-0 to Bugesera FC in their last outing, remain top of the table with 32 points, four points ahead of second-placed AS Kigali, who have two games in hand.
