The new National Rally champion Davite Giancarlo departs for Belgium today ahead of next week’s Rallye de Condroz, the most prestigious race on Belgium’s rally calendar.

The driver, who leaves aboard Brussels Airlines, will be making his fifth appearance in the race which is likely to attract over 150 drivers from all-over the world.

Even though the Italian-born driver couldn’t finish last year’s edition, he still insists that it was his best show in the race.

"It’s very unfortunate that I couldn’t finish the race but I think I drove my best race,” he explained.

Giancarlo was in touching distance of the top twenty slots before his Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 9 suffered mechanical damage.

"I felt like I was really going to have a good position before my car transmission broke,” he said.

By the time he pulled out, he was in the 24th position.
Despite his recent heroics (Rallye de L’est) in his new yellow Subaru Impreza, Giancarlo insists that he will stick to his Mitsubishi as he represents Rwanda in the three-day race which sets off on November 7.

"Of course I would have loved to drive my Subaru in this race (Rallye de Condroz) but it’s very expensive to get it over to Belgium,” he said.

Ahead of this race, Giancarlo has landed sponsorship from East African Cargo, Europe Car and was also counting on ORTPN by press time.
